The Repressor

I am a computational biologist studying the LacI/GalR protein family ([link]).

I thought it'd be fun to imagine what a poster would look like if one of the proteins from that family was a movie action hero.

I used Chimera (a molecular visualization tool; [link]) to visualize the full 3D structure and took slices through the image to build an image that had a line-drawing quality in GIMP. The x-ray crystal structure was originally solved by Bell and Lewis (2000. Nat. Struct. Biol. 7: 209-214; [link]) and deposited in the Protein Databank (PDB) as PDB:1efa ([link]).
